Legendary Slovak athletics meeting Pravda - Television - Slovnaft pause after six annual returns under the old acronym, but now in a new place and a new artificial track in x-bionic® sphere. Everything will take place on Saturday, June 4, which will take place already in its 51st year this famous event.
The Slovak Athletic Union (SAU) thinks that it is the right time to renew one of the most prominent athletic events in Slovakia. “I am very happy, but I also have a big responsibility that we announced a huge thing for both Slovak and athletic sport. It is the P – T – S meeting, which also used to be called “the Zurich of the East”. We have very strong partners and we hope that thanks to them, we will be able to create the best possible conditions for athletes. We want to write history again, though we realize that, like in the past, we won´t have Olympic winners right from the beginning. We are mainly doing it for our athletes, so that spectators can see them and so that they can have excellent conditions,” said SAU President Peter Korčok.
“It is a great idea that we are returning to the prestigious event which belonged to world-class events. I hope that we will be able to recreate its fame. The Pravda – Televízia – Slovnaft brand had evolved, between 1992 and 1998 under the name Slovnaft. Back then, the absolute world elites gathered in Bratislava and I believe that we can build on that,” said Slovnaft´s spokesperson Anton Molnár.
Next year, our resort x-bionic® sphere will host the European Championship in cross-country run. “We are resurrecting a tradition and we are very proud that it will take place in our resort. We are building a top centre there. While this meeting once started on Tehelné pole (Brick Field), we started on a corn field four years ago. I don’t mean to discredit anything, I am only saying that we are offering a much more complex and broader background for the queen of sports,” said the President of the X-BIONIC® SPHERE a.s. Board of Directorsand a former Olympian Juraj Bača.
The P – T – S meeting started in 1957 as the Pravda Grand Prix in the Tehelné pole stadium. The event was named Pravda – Televízia – Slovnaft in 1973 when it also got its logo, whose author is academic painter Miroslav Cipár.
The budget of the renewed event will be around 170 thousand euros. The capacity of the stadium is 5000 spectators. There should be 13 disciplines, including 100 m, 800 m, 1500 m, height, spear, hammer throw or walk for men; and distance and hammer throw for women. What´s more, there will also be three relay runs. The organizers are trying to secure the participation of the World Champion in walking, Matej Tóth
